GALVESTON, TEXAS

Hurricane Relief Trip April 11-17, 2010

From Bob Caie:

We can make a difference in the lives of people in Galveston, Texas who are still recovering from Hurricane Ike.

Hurricane Ike slammed into the Gulf Coast of Texas near the Galveston area in September 2008, and was the

third most damaging hurricane in U.S. history behind Katrina in 2005 and Andrew in 1992.  110 mph winds

created a 14-22 foot surge that raked across Galveston Island and Bolivar Peninsula areas.  90 percent of

Galveston was flooded while Bolivar Peninsula looked as if an atomic bomb landed.  Of the 8,000 homes that

once were a part of the peninsula, 1000 homes remain. For one month residents were unable to receive food,

water and electricity.  Much of the Texas Gulf Coast is still in disrepair.  Like with Hurricane Katrina relief, the

Galveston area will take years to repair, rebuild and get back to normal.

We will be leading a trip back to Texas from April 11-17, 2010 in partnership with Grace Evangelical Free Church

from Stamford.  This is another opportunity for you to make a difference in the lives of people who are in need.

Jesus encouraged us in Matthew 5:16 to “let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and

praise your father in heaven.”   Our faith can be summed up in the two greatest commandments:  To love the Lord

your God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength and love your neighbor as yourself.  I’m inviting you to take part

in this effort to make a difference in the lives of our neighbors in Texas.
