BUILDING HISTORY OF STANWICH CHURCH
1731—Stanwich Church founded by 13 families
1732—Erected first meeting house on the corner of Taconic and North Stanwich Road.
1804—Original meeting house was too small and consequently torn down—larger church was built on the same site
1867—Structure enlarged again into sanctuary
1895—Methodist church at 237 Taconic Road originally built in 1846 was acquired by Stanwich Church as a Meeting Hall
1923—Stanwich Church destroyed by lightning
1924—Moved to the old Methodist church
1927—Steeple added
1939—Parsonage built adjacent to church
1960—Upper Room and kitchen added—then shed rooms (1964)
1970’s—Stanwich Church plants Long Ridge Church in Stamford
1991—Due to Stanwich’s continued growth, a building committee was formed to investigate possibilities for expansion.
1999—Stanwich Church plants Trinity Church in Greenwich
1999—Discovery of major structural problems in the sanctuary.
1999—“Friends of Stanwich” purchased two adjoining properties on Taconic Road (#190 and #202). After prayerful consideration the congregation decided to begin a capital campaign to build a new and larger church on this property.
February 5, 2006—The administrative wing of the new church was completed, and the staff moved into their new offices. April 1, 2006—The sanctuary was finished, and the congregation celebrated a special consecration service to ask God's blessing on our new church home. April 2, 2006—The congregation celebrated the first Sunday worship service in the new sanctuary.
