Joan Osgood Senior Associate Pastor
Joan has been a member of Stanwich since 1973. She completed her Divinity studies at Yale and began her leadership role as Associate Pastor in 1988 at the same time that Rev. Neely Towe, who is now retired, became Senior Pastor. Joan describes her previous experience as “mostly raising children,” although she also taught music, worked for a short time in administration at an office, and had a short stint at a travel agency (which she terms “a disaster”). She and her husband Don have four children and four grandchildren. Don is the author of several inspirational books, including a history of Stanwich Church, the updated version of which was published in 2005. Joan’s background has made her a tremendous asset to Stanwich in extending pastoral care across a breadth of many different ministries. Her leadership is evident not only in the pulpit, but also in her deep involvement in virtually all of the congregation’s volunteer ministries, where she can be seen preparing food, sorting clothing, and handling any other task where the end objective is to help people both within and outside Stanwich. Joan was born in New York City and has lived in various places, including Maryland, Long Island, and Pound Ridge, New York. In addition to her Master of Divinity from Yale, she has B.S. and M.S. degrees from the State University of New York College at Purchase. |
