Stanwich Celebration a Big Success

   On September 18 Stanwich enjoyed

an “Extravaganza” all-church picnic and

ministry celebration at the new church site.  The event was well attended, providing an opportunity to enjoy wonderful fellowship and displays featuring many of the congregation’s ministries.  Add to that the launch of

our new web site, the introduction of

Don Osgood’s newly updated book

on Stanwich history, a picnic feast,

the singing of hymns led by the

Evensong band, and the joy of standing

in what will soon be our beautiful new church home, and we had all the ingredients for what Rev. Neely Towe refers to as a truly “high time.”  Thanks

to the multitude of volunteers who made

the event possible.

Mark Scarlata Heads Clergy Group

   The Greenwich Fellowship of Clergy

has just selected Rev. Mark Scarlata,

our Associate Pastor, as President

of the organization.  The Fellowship is an ecumenical group of priests, pastors and rabbis from different houses of worship in town.  It meets once a month for a luncheon, which often includes speakers from various local political or service groups.  The group also hosts various town-wide worship events throughout the year on holidays such

as Thanksgiving and Martin Luther King Day.  Mark will be responsible for the organization of the Fellowship and will

be called on to represent the clergy at various town events.  This is a great

honor and outstanding recognition for both Mark and Stanwich.

Our Stars Shine

At the recent 31st annual Gospel Music Association conference in Estes Park, Colorado, Stanwich talent emerged as

shining stars.  Jonathan Curri, lead vocalist

in the Evensong band, was awarded third place in the “Best New Vocalist of the Year” competition.  Jonathan and Rev. Chris Sorensen placed in the top eight in the

“Best New Duet of the Year” category.

And that’s not all:  Chris’s song, “Come Almighty King,” was in the top 20 songs of 2005.  (The song is on the album sold in

the Stanwich bookstore.)  These honors

are especially impressive considering that

the competition included a huge number of performers and songs.  The 4,500-member Gospel Music Association is dedicated to exposing, promoting, and celebrating the gospel through music. The GMA represents

all styles of gospel music, including contemporary pop, rock, urban gospel,

praise and worship, Southern gospel,

country, and children’s gospel music.  The

GMA Music Awards recognize achievement

in all genres of gospel music and are voted

on by members of the association.

Outstanding New Books

Recently, Rev. Neely Towe commented from the pulpit on a book she judged outstanding – The Five Love Languages, by Gary Chapman.  Nancy Gruber, who heads our Bookstore Ministry, now reports that along with that original volume, two additional books by the same author are available for purchase

in the Stanwich bookstore.  They are The Five Love Languages of Teenagers and The Five Love Languages of Children.  The original book is $8.50 and the others are $9.50 each.

If inventory is sold out, additional copies may be ordered.
