Evensong Rising UConn

Evensong Rising Band Hits the Road

Stanwich is excited to announce that our Evensong Rising band is hitting the road to take the gospel message beyond the walls of Stanwich to a variety of venues in our area.  The band, which has been praised both locally and nationally (see related stories from Greenwich Time and Gospel Music Awards) is performing at Christian concerts and colleges.

On February 3 the band rocked the Bushnell theater in Hartford as they opened for the “Jeremy Camp” and

“Tree 63” bands, two of the top Christian rock groups in the country.  Then Evensong travelled to UConn in Storrs

on February 17, where they played before an enthusiastic audience of about 350 people.  A quote posted on the UConn web site praised the event:  "The main event was really a worship service (not concert) led by Rev. Chris Sorensen from Stanwich Church and Evensong Rising. The worship was unbelievably good.  I really love this band and thought they did a great job leading people into worship

as opposed to just putting on a concert."

The final event for the spring was held on February 23 at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury.  The events were so well attended that more are

being planned for the fall of 2006.

Church Office Move

The first step in Stanwich’s occupancy of our new building is now complete, thanks to an army of volunteers who provided trucks, SUV's and muscle power to lug computers, furniture, boxes filled with files, and other office paraphernalia.

Over the next few weeks the staff will continue the “shakedown cruise” to identify and correct problems that inevitably arise in a new building, so that everything will be as nearly perfect as possible when we begin worshipping in our new church home.

Evensong Weekend Retreat

Evensong held a weekend retreat in Ghent, New York, at a facility called

ART OMI.  The event was enjoyed by

36 people, including singles, couples,

and families.  Steve Gilbert led discussions on "Living the Kingdom Ethic in Today's Culture,"  Dave Tolley and Mark Scarlata

led worship, and Mary Beth Gilbert coordinated the children's program.

Free time on Saturday featured sledding, roller skating, hiking, and sitting outside soaking up the 60-degree weather.

The retreat was such a success that

it is planned to become an annual event.
