We've Moved!

The weekend of April 1-2, 2006, was

a historic milestone in the life of Stanwich Church.  Our beautiful new sanctuary is finished!  A special consecration service was held at 5 pm on Saturday, followed by a reception.  The next day we celebrated our first three worship services at our new times of 9:30 am, 11:15 am and 5:30 pm.  At these services we gave thanks to God

for our beautiful new building, and we dedicated our church and ourselves

to the Lord's service.  What a joyous

time in the life of our church!

Many of the wonderful people who

gave their time and talent to the construction of our new building

attended the first worship service.

One of the carpenters, Tommy Pocevic, was baptized during the service with Gregg Verses, the foreman of the Pappajohn construction crew, as his godfather.

Stanwich Welcomes 26 New Members

On April 30 Stanwich welcomed 26 new members to our family.  Welcoming new members is always a special time at our church, and this time was extra special since it was the first in our new sanctuary.

The congregation looks forward to getting to know each new member.

Last Service in our Old Sanctuary

On Sunday, March 26, the congregation celebrated the last worship service in our old sanctuary at 237 Taconic Road.  This sanctuary was originally built in 1846 as a Methodist chapel, and was acquired by Stanwich Church in 1895 for use as a meeting hall.  The congregation began worshipping in this sanctuary in 1923 after Stanwich Church was hit by lightning and burned to the ground.

Now that we have moved to our beautiful new building down the street at 202 Taconic Road, the sanctuary at 237 Taconic will be used for small weddings and funerals.  It will be known from now on as the Stanwich Chapel.

Confirmation Sunday

The sanctuary was packed on Sunday, April 9, not only to celebrate Palm Sunday but also to watch 25 of our young people

be confirmed.    The students started the confirmation process with a weekend

retreat in January (read related story),

and then studied together for 6 weeks with Youth Director Wes Roberts to learn more about the Christian faith.

On Sunday they gathered at all three services to confirm their faith.  Confirmands Sam MacFarlane and Kim Sebastian both gave beautiful testimonies about their confirmation experience and their growing faith.  Rev. Chris Sorensen spoke directly

to the confirmands in his message on Sunday evening to encourage them.

   This year’s Confirmation Sunday was

extra special since it was the first one celebrated in our new sanctuary.   To view photos from Confirmation Sunday, please visit the Stanwich Photo pages.
