CELEBRATING MISSIONS WEEK

Several special events were scheduled in January to celebrate missions week and to highlight the importance of serving people in need in our community and throughout the world.

Sunday, 1/20:  Guest preacher Dr. Heather Parkinson-Webb, Director of Spiritual Care for Greenwich Chaplaincy at all three worship services.

Tuesday, 1/22, 7-9 PM:  Dinner for Senior HIgh students featuring guest speaker Preshan Devissar, a tsunami survivor from Sri Lanka.

Friday, 1/25, 7 PMRISEUP concert of spiritual awakening and humanitarian activism featuring music by Evensong Rising.

Saturday, 1/26, 9-11 AM:  Seminar 'Engaging the Muslim World', led by Chuck Davis and a guest speaker who has converted from Islam to Christianity.

Saturday, 1/26  7 PM:  Children's musical 'Heart to Change the World', followed by a reception in Emmaus Hall.

In addition to these special events, Missions Week also highlighted opportunities for the congregation to

help with local missions.  Stanwich collected numerous items needed by Opportunity House, a homeless shelter recently opened by the Bridgeport Rescue Mission to help women address the problems of addiction and to find new life in Christ.

EVENSONG RISING CONCERT

Over 300 hundred people packed the sanctuary on January 25 for a special concert featuring the music of Evensong Rising.  The concert featured a sneak peek at the band's new CD, which is scheduled to be released in May.  In addition to great music, the evening provided a glimpse of how we are called to spiritual awakening and humanitarian activism.  Donations were collected to help a children's medical clinic and adult HIV/AIDS education in Kenya.

The Greenwich Times and Stamford Advocate featured the band in a full-page article in the Weekend Spotlight.

WELCOME JOSHUA KIM

Joshua Kim and his family are here!  Our new Associate Pastor, his wife Grace, and son Josiah moved up from North Carolina into the Adams house parsonage next to the old Stanwich Chapel.  They would like to thank everyone for their warm welcome,

gifts, and help with the move-in.

Joshua gave his first sermon at Stanwich on January 6, and said he is very excited to get to know his new family of faith and to start serving the Lord at Stanwich.  If you missed Joshua's message, you can listen to it  online from our 2008 sermons page.
